Internal pipe blasting equipment is crucial for cleaning and preparing the inner surfaces of pipes utilized in industries like oil & gas, petrochemical, and water treatment. By employing abrasive media, this equipment ensures pipes are free from rust, scale, & contaminants, providing an ideal surface for coatings and linings. We also offer sand blasting hose, portable sand blasting machine, sand blasting hopper, sand blasting nozzle, etc.
Internal Pipe Blasting Machine
The internal pipe blasting machine cleans the interior of pipes up to 40 feet long and with an inner diameter ranging from 8" (210 mm) to 35" (890 mm). The internal pipe blasting equipment, which replaces a normal nozzle, attaches to most abrasive blasting machine. As the internal pipe cleaning tool moves down the length of the pipe being cleaned, the abrasive is removed by two distinct nozzles attached to a spinning head. The braking system controls the optimal spinning speed. The equipment is supported by an extensible centering carriage that runs through the internal pipe. The table below displays the suggested centering legs, nozzle sizes, and compressor capacity for various pipe diameters.

The system set-up for the internal pipe blaster operation is the same as for any different blast cleaning operation, i.e. an air compressor, an optional moisture separator, a blast machine, a helmet air supply system, an additional pipe lance of the same length as the pipe to be internally cleaned and two CFT couplings.
Abrasive media to be utilized for optimal operation is between 16 (1.2 mm) to 35 (0.5 mm) mesh size, except for aluminum oxide and silicon carbide (sand). These two abrasives shorten the internal pipe blasting machine’s life unacceptably.
Before the operation, check the rotating head on drag. Attach the blast hose to one end of the internal pipe blasting machine to the further end with CFT couplings. Pipes to be cleaned could be kept in stacks. Insert the machine just inside the pipe with the sand blasting hose running throughout the pipe. Now spread air exclusively to the internal pipe blasting tool and check that air is reaching out of the nozzle. Keeping checked the internal pipe blaster nozzles add abrasive to the air.
Internal Pipe Blasting Equipment Parameters
When selecting internal pipe blasting equipment, several specifications should be considered to ensure optimal performance:
Pipe Diameter Range: Blasting equipment are designed to accommodate a specific range of pipe diameters. Some equipment can clean pipes as small as 2 inches in diameter, while others are designed for larger pipes up to several feet wide.
Blasting Pressure: The pressure at which abrasives are propelled plays a key role in the cleaning process. Most internal pipe blasting systems operate at pressures ranging from 100 to 500 psi, depending on the pipe material & level of contamination.
Abrasive Media Compatibility: The type of abrasive media utilized in the equipment is also crucial. Common media include steel grit, glass beads, and aluminum oxide. Each material has different properties, such as hardness and size, which influence the surface finish.
Rotational Speed: For rotating head tools, the rotational speed affects how evenly the abrasive is distributed along the pipe’s surface. Adjustable speed settings allow for better control over the blasting process, especially when cleaning sensitive or high-precision pipes.
Hose Length: Hose length plays a significant role in portability and ease of operation. Longer hoses provide flexibility, allowing operators to blast pipes without needing to move the equipment constantly.
Advantages of Internal Pipe Blasting Equipment
Efficient Cleaning: Internal pipe blasting equipment ensures efficient cleaning of pipes by removing contaminants that could compromise the pipeline's integrity and performance.
Surface Preparation: By cleaning the internal surfaces of pipes, this equipment creates an ideal surface for the application of protective coatings, ensuring longer-lasting results.
Cost-Effective: Regular maintenance utilizing internal pipe blasting reduces the need for pipe replacements, saving on repair and replacement costs in the long run.
Extended Pipe Lifespan: Blasting away contaminants like rust and scale prolongs the lifespan of pipes, ensuring they continue to function effectively for extended periods.
Internal pipe blasting equipment is designed to clean and prepare the internal surfaces of pipes and tubes utilizing abrasives propelled at elevated velocity. It is necessary for releasing rust, scale, & old coatings, assuring that the interior is smooth and ready for a new protective layer or coating. This method enhances the durability and longevity of pipes by eliminating impurities that could lead to corrosion and reduce the pipe’s efficiency.
